Born and raised in Peru, Indiana, Kati began her musical studies
in 1995 at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio. After
receiving a BM in vocal performance, she headed out to the San
Francisco Conservatory of Music where she was awarded a MM in
2001. Being captivated by the rich culture and musical history
there, Kati began to teach vocal lessons and decided to make
San Francisco her home. Since 1999, Kati has been seen in a
number of operatic performances throughout the Bay Area including
several solo art song recitals.
In November of 2003, Kati met guitarist Jeff Weinstein and was
invited to join up with "The Mark Kaye Band" as a
background vocalist. There began an important turning point
in the direction of her musical career. Leaving the classical
world behind for the most part, Kati quickly started recording
work for "Mark Kaye Music", and brushed up on her
percussion and keyboarding skills as well. After a few months,
she established herself as the featured female vocalist and
secondary keys for the band.
Being inspired by the abrupt, but fortuitous, turn in musical
direction, Kati began learning the guitar and discovered her
own ability and passion for songwriting. Her debut CD release
is being planned for the upcoming year.
"Mark and Jeff have given me the opportunity to discover,
explore, and express my true musical calling."
Currently, Kati can be found touring with "The Mark Kaye
Band" and performing the occasional "classical gig"
throughout the Bay Area.
